You’ve had a tree removed, but what do you do about the stump? You may be asking…Do I remove or grind?
Experts agree that stumps need to be taken out. The stump will eventually decay, but it will take years. In the meantime, you are leaving a feast for termites and carpenter ants. These pests can move in and easily spread to other plants and even your home.
There are two ways a stump can be taken out of the ground; stump removal, and stump grinding. Each way has pros and cons. It is important for you to decide which one works best for your yard.
Stump Removal
Stump removal is labor intensive. Your land clearing expert will work hard along with heavy machinery to pull the stump out of the ground. They then dig up and remove all roots. This leaves you with a blank slate for your landscaping. If you have lots of plans for your yard, stump removal is the way to go. However, you will have a gaping hole in your yard until it is filled in!
Stump Grinding
The process for stump grinding is less intensive. Winsco will use a machine to shred the stump down to small wood chips you can use as mulch. Many would agree this is more efficient than stump removal. However, you will be left with the roots. They will eventually decay, but the process could take up to 10 years. If you have landscaping plans, the roots may prevent other things from being planted.
